The second Secret Light Award selection process commenced on January 15, 2019, with a nationwide call for entries. Nearly a hundred domestic enterprises responded, submitting their applications. Following a preliminary selection, a public online voting was held from March 26 to April 27, 2019. On April 27, an expert panel comprising 17 distinguished members, including Academician Fan Dianyuan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President Zhu Xiao of the Wuhan China Optics Valley Laser Industry Association, Secretary-General Ge Juan of the Taiwan Laser Technology Application Association, and Professor Wang Yong of the Southwest Institute of Physics and Technology, evaluated the contenders. They assessed market competitiveness, product technical parameters, and corporate innovation breakthroughs against established criteria and scoring rules. The final list of awardees was determined and announced on May 8.
This year’s event marked the inaugural presentation of the “Outstanding Figures in China’s Laser Industry Award,” a special individual recognition. As a result of the selection process, 37 enterprises from the laser industry’s supply chain and two leading figures in laser technology were honored with the annual grand prize, celebrating their significant contributions to the field.
